Topic: Direct Computation: If the shoe fits.

I have just tried using direct computational GI with subdiv=5... Damn slow, and grainy.... is there any point in using Direct computational method for GI or am I just not getting the settings right!?!?
(with irradiance map, it is allot quicker and smoother!)
Follow-ups
A: It depends on what you do. If you do interior scenes, Direct GI will most likely be useless - it will be way too slow. For relatively simple exterior scenes it can produce nice results relatively quickly and besides, it does not produce flickering in animations with moving objects. The irradiance map (like any other interpolation method) tends to blur the indirect light and small details might be lost. Also, it may be difficult to get rid of the flickering in animations.
