Does anyone know why rendering with MATTE object is much slower than without?
Follow-ups
A: matte ojects use Direct computation for GI. You can disable GI (put it to 0), or change the subdivs.
note: Vlado has stated that irradiance map support for matte rendering will be implemented
Comment: This has now been implemented, and matte objects are very fast indeed
