Topic: On color splotches and self illuminated materials
posted by Dman3D/Egz
archived on 7.2.2003
Since both subjects are interlinked and scattered among a number of posts I thought it might be good just to get it together in one place.
As of verion 1.09.02q:
When you suddenly (or not so suddenly) get colorful splotches in your render make sure the following is done.
Your VRay is authorized properly (typically purple and redish moray like patterns on everything)
For more colorful splotches (yellow, red, blue, purple and so on)
Make sure all objects that require UVW Mapping are mapped.
You may need to switch to the scanline renderer to check since VRay at this point does not alert you to missing UVW's.
For self-illumminated materials make sure to use a Output map in the self-illumination slot of the material.
Check the "color" box next to the self-illumination spinner in the common parameters roll-out and set the color to whatever you want it to be.
Make sure that bitmaps have the Apply box checked in the bitmap rollout whether you are cropping the map or not.
If anyone has anything to add here pop on in.
Follow-ups
Comment: Somtimes, on 90 degree corners in small details (grooves etc) you can also get some splochy artifacts. These tend to go away when you lower the normal threshold of the irradiance map.
